A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Thursday, 26th May 2016 for the launch of SHARECITY research project. It was a great turnout and a very enjoyable evening!
After Anna Davies’ introduction to the project, we had the chance to hear Eoghan and Bernie talking about WeShare Dublin, a gift economy platform where community members can share all kinds of goods and services, including food. Bernie also introduced WeShare’s exciting initiative “Falling Fruit“, a community-driven urban mapping and harvesting project. Samantha, founder of DCU community garden, then explained how to build a vibrant environment by combining gardening, education and community objectives through growing. Finally, Shane of the Newmarket Kitchen – a commercial shared kitchen facility – highlighted how they facilitate the work of innovative food entrepreneurs by providing high quality workspaces that meet all industry standard health and safety legislation
Cian, one of The Fumbally‘s talented chefs, worked with the SHARECITY team to create a tasty and imaginative buffet menu using donated surplus bread and produce that would have otherwise been wasted. Wine was kindly provided by the founders of WineLab, who have introduced to Ireland an innovative way to serve high quality wines, all the while reducing the environmental impact of shipping and spoilage.
Finally, this event could not have happened without the invaluable help of our fantastic volunteers: Ben, Emma, Birim and Lídice.
