Day 1 – Understanding Food Sharing

The #SHARECITY2020 Virtual Conference took place online in September 2020.

Introduction

 

Prof. Anna Davies is Professor of Geography, Environment and Society at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, where she directs the Environmental Governance Research Group. Anna is also the Principal Investigator of the SHARECITY Research Project.


Ethnographic Research

 

This section includes 4 presentations by SHARECITY Researchers: Dr Brigida Marovelli, Dr Ferne Edwards, Dr Oona Morrow, and Monika Rut. These researchers undertook detailed ethnographic research on the urban food sharing practices in 4 global cities: Athens, Barcelona, New York, and Singapore.

 

Dr Brigida Marovelli is social scientist Researcher with research interests in Food Studies, Urban Studies and Anthropology of Europe. Brigida was involved with SHARECITY as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in 2016-2018, conducting urban food sharing research in London and Athens.


Dr Ferne Edwards is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Socially and Environmentally Just Transitions, Department of Design, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway. Ferne was involved with SHARECITY as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in 2016-2018, conducting urban food sharing research in Barcelona and Melbourne.


Dr Oona Morrow is an Assistant Professor in Food Sociology at the Rural Sociology Group, Wageningen University & Research, the Netherlands. As a member of the SHARECITY Team in 2016-2018, Oona engaged in ethnographic research in Berlin and New York.


Monika Rut is a researcher and practitioner interested in sustainable food systems, transitions and cultural and social change. She recently completed her PhD with SHARECITY, examining food sharing in Singapore, and is now a Research Assistant with the team.

Prof. Julian Agyeman Ph.D. FRSA FRGS, Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University, USA, has extensive experience in local government, environmental and sustainability consulting and in the voluntary sector in the UK.
